This delightful set of traditional Country Dances were set for String Orchestra by British composer Herbert Murrill in 1945, and are arranged here for double reeds.  The eight short pieces (the shortest 35 seconds, the longest just over 2 minutes) have hints of Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite, or possibly Percy Grainger's folk song settings, with simply treated lively tunes placed alongside slower music featuring lush, rich and sometimes surprising harmonies. The pieces can be performed as a whole delicious set or taken singly, or maybe in pairs as little concert pieces - Ideal for learning when rehearsal time is short! Little gems!
