Arranged for double reed ensemble, this selection contains some truly memorable solos, as well as many rhythmic figures to challenge the ensemble. Maria offers a famous long, winding melody, while the central piece, Tonight, constantly changes tempo, culminating in a soaring Beguine tune. Finally, the rhythmic cocktail of America provides a dazzling finale to the suite. Beginning with a 3 against 2 ‘seis’ introduction, the music develops into ‘tempo di huapango’ a Mexican dance alternating between 6/8 and 3/4. Although this piece would be ideal showpiece for an advanced ensemble, the optional Oboe 4 part is crafted for grade 3 to 4 players.
