My first foray into writing original dances neatly combined this interest with my Polish upbringing. A personal challenge was to compose an authentically-sounding set of Polish dances and yet, make them sound as if they have always been part of the Polish music tradition. Whilst these pieces are original, I could not stop myself from injecting my Mazurek with extra ‘Polishness’ by quoting my uncle Waldemar Kazanecki’s timeless theme from the Polish movie classic ‘Noce i Dnie’ (‘Days and Nights’), adapted from his original Viennese waltz to my Mazurek. A snippet of the Polish national anthem ‘Mazurek Dąbrowskiego' can be heard in my Polonez.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003e Each dance is a dedication to a member of my family.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eI originally scored this set of pieces for clarinet, viola and piano.
